About GAMS
Welcome to About GAMS Information Area
The Greencastle-Middle School was built in 1967 and houses grades six, seven and eight. Greencastle-Antrim Middle School's programs are designed for student success relative to each student's abilities. Concern is expressed for the students at this transitional level as they experience physical, social, emotional and intellectual changes in their lives.
Students belong to a grade level team:
Sixth Grade Level
At the sixth grade level, we have three-person teams. One teacher concentrates in math. The second teacher concentrates in language arts, and the third teacher concentrates in science and social studies.
Seventh and Eighth Grade Levels
At the seventh grade level, we have four-person teams which are comprised of a language arts, mathematics, science and social studies teacher. At the eighth grade level, students experience courses in math, language arts, science and social studies, but the teachers are not teamed. In addition, our students receive educational programming through our specials team. Specials include family and consumer sciences, technology education, art, music (vocal and instrumental), reading, math enrichment, and wellness. Students participate in a variety of specials courses per year.
GAMS encourages student involvement in its varied extracurricular activities.
In addition to band and choir which are offered for all three grades, students may participate in concerts, Jazz Band, Indoor Percussion and the marching band front. Other extracurricular opportunities exist with student council, assembly programs, school publications (yearbook), and morning announcements. Student council hosts a varied program of activities throughout the school year. The middle school has developed a "modified block" schedule. This schedule better prepares the students for entry into high school.
The school day for students in the middle school begins at 7:30 a.m. Parents of students who are self-transported (or who walk) should arrange to have their child arrive at the middle school fifteen (15) minutes before starting time. All students, upon arriving at the middle school, should go directly into the building and not loiter outside. Students may not leave the school property without administrative approval.
The middle school instructional day ends at 2:22 p.m.; however, students may remain for the activity period during which there are meetings of clubs and student organizations and opportunities to meet with teachers for extra help, makeup work, etc. There are no athletic team practices during this activity period. An after-school homework support program is available Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 3:50 p.m.
