Welcome to GAMS Social Studies Department

Explore the World Through Social Studies
The Greencastle-Antrim Middle School Social Studies Department is dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of the world, its cultures, histories, and the interconnectedness of societies. Through engaging lessons and interactive activities, we aim to empower students to become informed, critical thinkers and responsible global citizens. We use our district core competencies as a guide for our curriculum and goals for students.

Curriculum Highlights
In seventh grade, students will study how specific early United States historical events have shaped our past, present and could influence our future as a nation. Additionally, students will be tasked with understanding how geography, civic responsibility, economics, and specific populations used conflict and cooperation to create the beginnings of the American nation. The course materials will focus on the time period beginning with First Americans and the Age of Exploration and ending with Growth and Expansion.

Eight grade students will continue to study how specific United States historical events have shaped our past and could influence our future as a nation. Students will be tasked with applying the same concepts and understandings of how geography, civic responsibility, economics, and conflict and cooperation between specific populations influenced United States history with a focus on the growth of the nation post-Antebellum. For this grade, the time period of focus will be the Growth and Expansion/Industrial Era to the Great Depression.
